It was while studying metalsmithing at San Luis Obispo CA State Polytechnic University that our thought for an alternative to the conventional jewelry store first evolved.
Brad was an architecture student and Tony was going to be a history teacher. On the way to graduation, both of us ended up in a jewelry making class. We planned on messing around with this jewelry making stuff for a year or two but people loved our designs so much we had to go into business. We sought to offer a personalized jewelry store, where we could closely communicate with our customer to create a unique piece of jewelry, handcrafted and tailored to their taste. It was a new concept in our field, hence our name: The Gold Concept.
The Gold Concept opened with $2,000 worth of hand made items in 1971. Every item in stock was sold their first Christmas season. Today the store inventory varies from $300,000 to $400,000 and about 25% of the items sold are special made at the customer’s request. Brad and Tony invite you to browse through one of their fine locations to find the item of your dreams. |
